This piece is my inauguration into the world of fine art painting—my very first oil painting! I’ve always been captivated by the tree swallow, watching them swoop and dive, catching bugs on the wing. When they nest in their boxes, peeking their silky heads out, they remind me more of a miniature killer whale than a bird, with their stunning blue-black plumage contrasting against a vibrant white chest. I created this piece by learning the techniques of washes and deductive painting, building up to thick, buttery layers to capture the intensity of this little creature. Ready to hang.
