ARTIST STATEMENT

My work lives in the vibrant space between the real and the imagined. Whether I am carving a heavy, volcanic rock crust with a palette knife or painting a whimsical owl hang-gliding through the clouds, my art is about one thing: permission. It is permission to see the world not just as it is, but as it could be.

I see painting as visual poetry. Each canvas speaks in metaphor rather than literal translation, inviting viewers to feel the heartbeat of the composition before they try to intellectually understand it.

Because my curiosity is limitless, my studio process is a constant dance between raw, physical alchemy and joyful storytelling. In my landscape work, I abandon traditional brushes for a process that is 90% palette-knife work and direct hand-wrought manipulation—physically sculpting sand aggregates, translucent limestone, and natural mica to mimic the earth's shifting crust. In my narrative and animal series, I dive into pure whimsy, exploring the delight of unexpected connections. Whether I am using an innovative fluid water-bath technique to create hidden depths for aquatic creatures or placing wildlife into humorous human scenarios, I am constantly exploring the boundaries of controlled chaos and happy accidents.

These paintings are born from a fascination with how we can hold multiple truths at once—how an artwork can be both violently grounded and completely fantastical, both ancient and wonderfully playful. An elephant is powerful and ancient; a sunflower is pure summer joy. A frog is a creature of the swamp; a ballet on a lily pad is an elegant dance. When these opposing worlds collide on my canvas, a third story emerges—a unique narrative that neither element could ever tell alone.

I invite viewers to step off the beaten path, to be surprised, and to rediscover a sense of childlike wonder. My work is fully complete only when its textures and stories meet the landscape of your imagination.
