Panther is a study in exploring the versatility of black, defying the norm of avoiding it in high-end painting. The piece demonstrates how black acts as a powerful shading agent, creating rich, moody tones when mixed with color to also create subtle, deep shadows. I also discovered for myself the creation of a vibrant greenish-yellow, achieved by mixing yellow with black, bringing the panther’s eyes to life with intensity that acts as the focal point. Marking a personal breakthrough in focusing on eyes, treating them as the “soul” of the subject, creating a deep, engaging connection for the viewer.
