I used oil pencil to capture a rich, textured finish for the delicate beauty of the California Poppy. Growing up in California, I was taught picking poppies was illegal. While a common myth, it is only illegal on public or others’ land. This belief protected the flowers’ ability to self-seed and return every year. The California poppy represents resilience, hope, and the pioneering spirit. Its “power” lies in its ability to flourish in harsh conditions and poor soil.
