This painting (student work) is work from my own source material. Taking the story of a mighty elephant and merging it with the gentle beauty of a sunflower thereby creating a third story; surrealism. Or abstract realism. I love the mashup of ideas. In my original outline, I had just the lone elephant when I was inspired by a spontaneous creative shift to feature a baby elephant protected by its mother. Elephants are nurturing creatures with trunk hovering over the baby in love and protection. The painting is a personal, textured and poetic “mashup.” The texture includes sandy earth from my property.
